Savoring Summertime with the “Littles”

I know I write about this all the time, but do any of you wish you could simply just freeze time? As I lay my kids down for a nap, and I kiss them “goodnight,” I just can’t believe how much time has already passed. I am LOVING the ages of both of my kids right now, and I just keep wondering, how does it get better than this?

We are loving the freedom summer provides–but I am deathly afraid of how fast it will go and just be “over.” As they say, you only get 18 summers with your kids before they are grown and out of your house… and that just seems so CRAZY to me!

Are you feeling these same things? Are you past those “little” stages, and now looking back on them?

Let’s vow to not to let the fear of time passing get in the way of making these memories.

I will not stress when my house is never clean. Cleaning is such a time sucker! Of course, I have a huge to-do list of closets to clean, and cabinets to organize, but as much as it sometimes kills me, I have learned that all of those things sometimes have to wait. My reasoning: I could have spent hours cleaning every inch of my house, but as soon as the kids enter…boom.

I know a lot of us women get anxiety when things are not clean or organized, so if you can’t keep up with the chores…and can afford it… check into a cleaning service! It’s fully acceptable–it will save you time and energy that you could put into making those memories! I also have a few organizing tips that might help save you time.

I will not stress when all we do is eat popsicles, chicken nuggets, and ice cream. These are the days when it’s fully acceptable, but we still pray they run and burn off ALL the sugar!

I will remember that it’s ok to lose my s***. We are just trying to raise good humans, and it’s ok if you have to freak out a little to get your point across. A quote I read recently really resonated with me, “Our objective shouldn’t be to make sure our kids are always “happy,” it should be that we want to see them fulfilled.” Gosh, I love this! We won’t always be there to ensure their happiness, so at this age, we need to provide them with the reasons why, or how. I always try to apologize and explain my reasoning–and it works wonders with our 3-year-old as he replies with, “It’s ok mom, it happens sometimes.” <3 …See, they do forgive you!

SnapChat will continue to be my best friend. It keeps me up to date on all my friends’ happenings, and of course, it is the hub for all my videos of the kids. For when the day is done, all we have is memories, and what better way to look back on them than with pictures and videos.

I will still find time to watch “my shows.” My time with the TV is far and few between, but I do love me some daytime TV. But, do you know how hard it is to bargain with a 3-year-old? I’m still thinking about how to make this happen…

I will not worry about the things I cannot change. We all have battles we are facing as individuals whether it be work, family, friends, or other drama or issues. Don’t let your mind get in the way of enjoying the little things throughout the day.

I will still make time for myself. And it’s okay. I have dedicated 1 hour 3x a week to exercise, and I told myself I am not going to feel guilty for doing it. And I will also remember, it’s okay to send your kids to daycare for the day–they love the routine and structure, plus it gives you time to revamp and recharge to keep being the best mom you can be.

Remember, our kids grow older with every minute that passes, so what are you doing to savor your most precious memories?
